Moving & Packing Tips:
- Pack necessities separately for use as you are getting settled into your new home: medications, check book, cloths, toiletries, toilet paper, tools for assembling furniture, phone, alarm clock, linens, bedding, pillows, towels, shower curtains, food, eating utensils, trash bags, flashlight, light bulbs, pet food, baby or child care items and toys.
- Do not move items that may be needed at your old address for cleaning after you move out.
- Make sure that the boxes can hold the weight of the items enclosed. Keep the weight of any individual box below 50 lbs.
- When packing boxes, place heavier items in the bottom of the box and lighter items on top.
- When packing boxes, separate items with paper to prevent scratches caused by rubbing. Use generous amounts of paper to provide good cushion.
- Pack boxes firmly to prevent the contents from shifting during your move. Use crumpled paper for padding leaving no unfilled spaces.
- Pack fragile and non-fragile items separately.
- Seal boxes tightly with wide packing tape.
- Pack and move all high value items, such as jewelry and items with high sentimental value, yourself.
- Pack records and CDs vertically in boxes. Don't stack them flat.
- Seal any opened boxes and bottles before packing them to avoid spills and leakage.
- The movers will disassemble & reassemble you furniture upon request, or you may do it yourself to save moving time.
- When disassembling furniture, beds, lamps, etc. put the hardware into a plastic bag along with any assembly tips and tape it onto the item itself.
- If you own a waterbed drain it completely before your moving team arrives. Place the waterbed mattress in a box.
- Consider getting a baby sitter the day of the move.
- Confine your pets to an out-of-the-way room to help keep them from getting agitated by all of the moving activity. You may consider boarding them elsewhere until you're settled.
- Before departing your old address, take one last walk through and make sure everything has been packed.
